Hello!

Welcome! I'm Clare, 'The Movement Therapist.'

I’m here to help you move better, feel great, and live pain-free. With over 15 years in the fitness industry, I blend my expertise as a Sports Therapist, Personal Trainer, Pilates Instructor and FRC® Mobility Specialist to create customized solutions just for you.

My background includes a BSc in Exercise & Health, a Sport/Remedial Massage Diploma from Scotland’s leading massage therapy school, and I’m wrapping up my BSc Honors in Podiatry at Glasgow Caledonian University. This unique combination lets me integrate effective movement strategies with hands-on therapy for incredible results.

I love diving into biomechanics, pain management, and injury rehab. If you're in pain and unsure what to do, or if nothing else has worked, I'm here to help.

Why choose The Movement Therapist?

  • Qualifications

Not all massage qualifications are created equal. I studied sports at university and completed an additional two years of training to become a certified sports/remedial massage therapist with The Western School, an accredited program at Glasgow Caledonian University. With over 10 years of experience, my passion for sports, anatomy, and health drives my expertise.

For more details on my credentials, visit the ‘About Me’ page.

  • Consultation

It’s all about listening to you and pinpointing where things are going wrong. I’m not just rocking and rolling with elbows & thumbs and hoping for the best. I don’t do generic treatments - everything is personalised to you. During your first appointment, we'll spend about 15 minutes discussing your concerns and thoroughly assessing the issue. This allows us to create a tailored plan to move forward effectively

  • Tailored movement programs

An integral part of my work goes beyond what I do with my hands. Massage is just one piece of the puzzle. Drawing from my background as a Personal Trainer, Pilates Instructor, Functional Patterns Practitioner, and FRC Mobility Specialist, I bring a unique perspective to the table. This allows me to identify and address issues that other therapists might overlook, providing holistic movement solutions that keep you moving well long after your session ends. As part of my service, everyone leaves with personalized homework to further support their progress.

  • Friendly environment

Step into the Activ Scotland gym and leave the clichés behind - no whale music or clinical treatment rooms here. Instead, expect a vibrant atmosphere filled with friendly vibes and genuine warmth. I'm all about creating a relaxed environment where you can feel comfortable while I work my magic. Let's ditch the frills and focus on getting you moving and feeling great!

  • Online Booking

Secure sessions quickly and easily at your own convenience. You have complete control over booking, rearranging and cancelling any sessions that you are no longer able to attend.

  • Convenient Location

I predominantly work from the Activ Scotland studio in Glasgow City Centre, just 2 mins from Buchanan Street subway station.

Occasionally I work from my home in Paisley, near Hawkhead Station. Treatments from here are available on request.

Moving shouldn’t hurt.

You shouldn’t be sore getting out of bed in the morning, going down stairs or out for a run.

Frequently Asked Questions

Would I benefit more from a movement session or massage treatment?

It depends. If you're currently experiencing pain, a one-on-one session might be the best choice. If your pain is intermittent, starting with movement classes could be beneficial, reserving a treatment for when specialized advice is needed. And if you're pain-free but seeking to enhance your posture, performance, or overall well-being, then classes are the perfect fit for you.

What is the difference between Swedish, Deep Tissue and Sports / Remedial Massage?

Swedish massage serves as the foundation for all massage techniques, with therapists mastering a full-body routine before specializing further. This technique typically involves gentle strokes, kneading, wringing, friction, and rhythmic drumming motions, offering effective relief from muscular tension, stress, and enhancing overall circulation and well-being.

Deep tissue massage builds upon Swedish massage, offering a more intense approach. Therapists apply increased pressure to penetrate deeper muscle layers and connective tissues. Ideal for individuals experiencing muscular pain and fatigue, deep tissue massage provides targeted relief throughout the body.

Sports massage, unlike its full-body counterparts, focuses on targeted areas, addressing both minor and chronic injuries. Additionally, it serves as a vital tool for improving recovery and enhancing athletic performance.

Remedial massage takes a targeted approach to healing, focusing on injuries beyond the realm of sports. It aids in recovery, restoring functionality, and improving overall quality of life for individuals experiencing chronic injuries

What should I wear?

Whether you’re coming for massage or movement, wear something comfortable. I need to be able to move your limbs around easily, which won’t be possible if you have tight jeans on. If you’re coming straight from work, bring some leggings or shorts with you. We have male and female changing rooms at the studio.

Do you accept walk-ins?

Sorry, I don’t accept walk-in appointments for massage or movement classes. My booking system allows you to book your session up to 12 hours prior. If you need a session more urgently you can contact me via email.

How long should I book for massage?

Again, it depends. The most popular treatment time is 60 minutes, however if you have a complex issue then a longer session would be useful. Although if you’re just popping in our your lunchbreak from a maintenance massage then a 45 minute treatment might suit you better.

Is massage therapy painful?

Massage shouldn’t be painful. At times you may feel discomfort but pain can be counterproductive, your body tenses up in response to pain, making it harder to reach deeper muscles.

You should always say if you feel pain during massage. Further prep of the tissues may help if the superficial muscles are tense.

When should I avoid massage?

If you are feeling unwell, in your first trimester of pregnancy or have open wounds/sunburn then massage is not advised.

Do you sell gift vouchers?

Yes, I have printable gift vouchers available via my online booking system. Vouchers are available for both massage and movement classes. Vouchers come with a code that the recipient can use to book their session online.

What is your cancellation policy?

I have 24 hour cancellation policy. If sessions are not cancelled or rescheduled within 24 hours you will still be liable to pay for your session.
